Mclaren P1 GTR

For those of you who thought the garden variety P1 was a bit tame, rejoice! Mclaren is cooking up an off the chains P1 GTR, replete with 986 throbbing horses.





Celebrating 20 years since their victory in the 1995 24 Hours of Le Mans, McLaren announced that they would resurrect the GTR name by launching a track-only version of the P1, the McLaren P1 GTR.



The GTR will be made available to the 375 McLaren P1 owners only, and will be a very limited edition of 35 units. The concept car made its debut at the 2014 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance in August 2014. The P1 GTR production model was officially unveiled at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show. The GTR variant is priced at £1.9 million (€2.7 million or US$2.8 million).



Here it is, making its daddy proud:

McLaren states that this will be the most powerful McLaren to date, with an intended power output of 1,000PS (987 bhp). The car will also feature slick tyres, and is claimed to have greater levels of performance, grip, aerodynamics and downforce in comparison to the road car. Featuring a new fixed ride height on race-prepared suspension, a fixed rear wing capable of using DRS, and a new exclusively designed exhaust, McLaren aims to deliver the ultimate track experience.



This limited edition will go into production in 2015, after all 375 standard McLaren P1's have been built, as homage to its race-winning ancestor, the iconic F1 GTR, and will be built, maintained and run by McLaren Special Operations.



The McLaren P1 GTR hybrid engine aims at producing 1,000PS output 987bhp that's 84bhp over the current model, although McLaren did not disclose whether the power increase is from electrical boost or tuning the twin turbo 3.8-litre V8. Performance figures are unconfirmed P1 GTR weight was reduced by 50kg and deliver power-to-weight ratio of 687bhp per tonne.

So this, or the bonkers-like-its-name Ferrari , err, FXXK?

Five seconds. That's the gap between the ‘standard', 950bhp LaFerrari and the monster LaFerrari FXXK around Ferrari's private Fiorano test track. Proof, not that you needed it, that the FXXK is, well, fast.



At the FXXK's official launch at the Ferrari World Finals in Abu Dhabi, the company confirmed that the track-only FXXK had lapped Fiorano in 1m14s (the LaFerrari does it in 1m19s).

Body roll? What body roll?


There was also confirmation that the 1050bhp hybrid hypercar has all been accounted for. Less than 40 models will be produced at a cost of €2.5 million each, and, according to Ferrari's Nicola Boari, it's all sold out.

"Clients from all over the world have bought the FXXK," explains Boari, " and starting with next season, you will start to see the FXXK on track," he added.



What else do we know? Aside from the fact that this is the first ever Ferrari in history to produce more than 1,000bhp, the FXXK also features a whopping 540kg of load at 124mph - 42 per cent more than the previous FXX - along with an aerodynamic efficiency increase of 50 per cent.

Inside too, there are now a pair of manettino settings; one on the steering wheel with four settings (down from nine in the last XX car), and one on the central console to manage the KERS (you can flick between fast charge, boost and so forth).

As ever, data logged by those 40 lucky souls who'll get to pilot the FXXK at Ferrari events will be used by Maranello to inform - as the XX programme has always done - the next generation of Ferrari's road cars. A cursory glance at the astonishing trajectory of this line then, will confirm that things will only get faster.

Overall, the car weighs around 90kg less than LaFerrari, but don't think of it as a LaF upgrade. "This is not simply a track version of LaFerrari," explains Boari.

What it is then, is Ferrari, going completely unhinged. And so is the P1 GTR.

Ferrari FXXK!

The brilliantly-named FXX K is based on the LaFerrari – the quickest road-legal production car ever made by the Italian manufacturer.

But for some wealthy customers, the 217mph LaFerrari isn't quite quick enough – so lab boffins in Maranello, northern Italy, decided to make it more extreme.

Tearing up the rulebook for road and race cars, Ferrari has built a "completely uncompromising" vehicle designed to give "an unprecedented driving experience".

The FXX K now has more than 1,000bhp and will be able to accelerate from 0-62mph in less than THREE seconds.

It has been designed for lapping a racetrack as quickly as possible and has a 50 per cent increase in downforce to boost cornering.

The 'K' in the name is a reference to the "KERS" kinetic energy recovery system which boosts track performance.

It will also have a deafening roar, with engineers removing the silencers from the hybrid racecar's exhaust system.

Ferrari announced the first details of the FXX K today before it makes its global debut in Abu Dhabi next week.

A Ferrari statement said: "Unfettered by homologation and racing regulations, the FXX K will never be used in competition.

"It was, in fact, developed to be completely uncompromising, incorporating technological innovations that will guarantee an unprecedented driving experience to the exclusive group of Client-Test Drivers with whom the Prancing Horse will roll out a test programme over the coming two years."

The manufacturer refused to reveal pricing, but the limited edition track car is expected to cost in excess of £2million.
