Ferrari 488 GTB





The Ferrari 488 GTB (Tipo F142M) is a mid-engined sports car produced by the Italian sports car manufacturer Ferrari. It was launched on 3 February 2015, in advance of its world première at the March 2015 Geneva Motor Show. The 488 GTB is a heavily re-engineered replacement for the Ferrari 458, sharing several design features and chassis measurements. The 488 GTB was priced at £181,849 in the UK, an increase of around 2% on the 458 price.

It is powered by a 3.9-litre twin-turbocharged V8.


It replaces the excellent 458 Italia, so has a lot to live up to. Also, it face competition from the likes of the super quick Mclaren 650S and 675LT and also the best car lamborghini has ever made, the  Lamborghini Huracan.

Engine

The 488 GTB is powered by a 3,902 cc (238 cu in) all-aluminium dry sump unit of the Ferrari F154 engine family. Turbocharged with two parallel ball-bearing twin-scroll turbochargers supplied by IHI and two air-to-air intercoolers, the compressor wheels are made of low-density TiAl alloy often used in jet engines to reduce inertia and resist high temperatures within the turbocharger. The engine produces 670 PS (493 kW; 661 hp) at 8000 rpm and 760 N·m (561 lb·ft) of torque at 3000 rpm. This results in a specific power output of 126.3 kW (171.7 PS; 169.4 hp) per litre and specific torque output of 194.8 N·m (144 lbf·ft) per litre, both records for a Ferrari road car.

Transmission

The only available transmission for the 488 is an automatic dual-clutch 7-speed F1 gearbox manufactured for Ferrari by GETRAG, based on the gearbox used in the 458.

Handling

Improved carbon-ceramic brakes are supplied on the 488, derived from technology used in LaFerrari, constructed with new materials that reduce the time needed to achieve optimum operating temperature. Disc sizes are 398 mm at the front, and 360 mm at the rear. These advancements reportedly reduce stopping distances by 9% over the 458.

A new 5-spoke alloy wheel design is designed for the 488, measuring 20 inches front and rear. Front tyres measure 245/35 with rears 305/30.

Performance

Claimed manufacturer performance of the 488 is 0–100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.0 seconds, 0–200 km/h (120 mph) in 8.3 seconds, covering the quarter mile in 10.45 seconds and continuing to a top speed in excess of 330 km/h (210 mph).

Design

The body of the 488 has been designed to increase downforce by 50% over the 458 while reducing aerodynamic drag. A new front double splitter increases radiator cooling while a newly-designed blown spoiler integrated into the rear decklid and bumper increases downforce without requiring a raised wing. The central "Aero Pillar" deflects air under the flat body of the car while two vents in the bonnet provide an exit for air from the dual intakes of the front bumper, further reducing air pressure over the front of the car.

Underbody vortex generators work to reduce air pressure beneath the car thereby increasing overall downforce. A larger rear diffuser works to increase the velocity of air exiting the underbody to further lower air pressure, in conjunction with active aerodynamic variable flaps that both reduce drag and increase downforce as controlled by a microprocessor. The increased size of the diffuser over the previous 458 requires the twin exhausts of the 488 to be positioned higher in the rear bumper for clearance.

The scalloped side air intakes are an homage to those found on the 308 GTB, and are divided by a central partition. Air entering the top intake is partially directed into the turbocharger compressor intake, while the rest is directed through the rear of the car and exits alongside the rear lights, increasing air pressure behind the car in order to reduce aerodynamic drag. Airflow entering the lower intake is directed towards the intercoolers in order to cool the intake charge.

Ferrari F12


Behold the beautiful highly anticipated replacement to the awesome 599 GTB. This is the Ferrari F12, the striking new flagship to Ferrari's lineup. Its more compact than the 599 but its more muscular and has an engine to boast about. Its the same 6262cc naturally aspirated engine from the FF. But this one has been tuned to produce 80 more bhp. It now produces about 730 bhp and 509 torques. It competes with the Aston Martin Vanquish.


It prances to 60mph in 3.1 secs, will do 0-124mph in 8.5 secs and would go on to attain a top speed of 211mph. Moreover, its faster than the 599 GTB, the car it replaces, around Fiorano test track, by 3.5 seconds. And if that's not enough, it laps the track 2.0 seconds faster than the Ferrari Enzo, which is a feat in itself, considering the Enzo was a track focused Ferrari with design inputs from non other than Micheal Schumacher. 



 It uses 12 different alloys to achieve the best mix of rigidity and light weight. Its truly a breakthrough since its the fastest road-going Ferrari to ever lap the Fiorano, Ferrari's official test track. It does it in 1 minute 23 seconds to be exact. And, as was stated before, that is faster than the Enzo by a whole 2 seconds.



 Its also the most powerful road Ferrari ever. Magnetorheological treatment as the old 599. This one's bound to send almost all other super car flagships running to find for cover. Design wise, it has headlamps and other elements which follow Ferrari's latest design language, first seen on the Ferrari 458 Italia. Ferrari also makes the California.


The Ferrari F12berlinetta (also unofficially referred to as the F12 Berlinetta or the F12) is a front mid-engine, rear-wheel-drive grand tourer produced by Italian sports car manufacturer Ferrari. The F12berlinetta, introduced to the public at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show, replaces the Ferrari 599 series grand tourers.


Specifications

Engine

The F12berlinetta uses a 6,262 cc (382 cu in), naturally aspirated 65° V12 engine shared with the Ferrari FF, producing 740 PS (544 kW; 730 hp) at 8500 rpm and 690 N·m (509 lb·ft) of torque at 6000 rpm, making it the most powerful road-legal Ferrari to date. This allows the F12berlinetta to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.1 seconds, 0 to 200 km/h (120 mph) in 8.5 seconds to a top speed of over 340 km/h (210 mph).
The engine of the F12berlinetta has been designed to be more efficient than that of the 599, as well as more powerful. The engine management system is fitted with Ferrari's HELE start-stop system to reduce fuel consumption when idling. Ferrari reports that the F12berlinetta can achieve 18 mpg-imp (15.7 L/100 km; 15.0 mpg-US) – a 30% improvement over the 599 – and produces CO2 emissions of 350 g/km.

Transmission

In common with the California, 458 Italia and FF, the F12berlinetta transmits power through a 7-speed dual-clutch automated semi-automatic gearbox operated by the driver using 'paddles' behind the steering wheel. Compared to similar models, the F12berlinetta uses shortened gear ratios to match the power of the engine.[

Chassis

The F12berlinetta is built around an aluminium space frame chassis co-developed with Scaglietti. The chassis is made up of 12 different aluminium alloys and improves structural rigidity by 20% over the 599, whilst reducing weight by 70 kg (150 lb). The centre of gravity has been lowered by around 25 mm (0.98 in). The F12berlinetta's weight distribution is 46% front, 54% rear.
Similarly to other contemporary Ferrari models, the F12berlinetta uses Ferrari's third generation CCM3 carbon ceramic disc brakes with ABS, SCM-Emagnetorheological suspension, an electronic limited slip differential, ESP Premium stability control and F1-Trac traction control. The car's stability and traction control, suspension and other settings are controlled by the Manettino dial mounted on the steering wheel.

Tyres

The F12berlinetta is fitted with Michelin Pilot Super Sport tyres, with the tyre codes 255/35ZR20 at the front and 315/35ZR20 at the rear.

Aerodynamics

The F12berlinetta makes use of aerodynamic techniques based on Ferrari's 599XX and Formula One programmes, developed with wind tunnel and CFD testing. A notable feature is the Aero Bridge, an air channel running from the bonnet, through the flanks and along the sides of the vehicle, creating an effect that increases downforce. Another feature is Active Brake Cooling ducts, which open to direct cooling air only when the brakes are hot, keeping them closed at other times to reduce aerodynamic drag. The F12berlinetta produces 123 kg (270 lb) of downforce at 200 km/h (120 mph) – an increase of 76% over the 599 GTB – and has a drag coefficient of 0.299.

Performance

Ferrari reports that the F12berlinetta is capable of lapping the Fiorano test circuit in 1 minute, 23 seconds; 1.0 second faster than the 599 GTO, 1.9 seconds faster than the Enzo Ferrari, 2.0 seconds faster than the 458 Italia and 3.5 seconds faster than the 599 GTB.

Design

The body of the F12berlinetta is designed by the Ferrari Styling Centre and Pininfarina, and shares some styling elements with other recent Ferrari models. This includes a front grille similar to the FF and headlights shared with the FF and 458 Italia. The interior, based on the FF, features new "Frau leather" upholstery with aluminium and carbon fibre trim, and has increased luggage space compared to the 599.




It will compete with the scintillating Pagani Huayra and Zonda, the awesome Lamborghini Aventador, the gorgeous Bentley GTC, the new upcoming Dodge Viper and others with no limit on tech and exclusivity.
