Range Rover (L405)





The Range Rover L405, is the fourth-generation of Range Rover to be manufactured by Land Rover. It was first shown the 2012 Paris Motor Show. It differs from previous generations by using an all-aluminium monocoque body.


Specifications

The platform is an all-aluminium monocoque structure which is a first for a SUV, resulting in a reduction of 420 kg (925.9 lb) compared to the outgoing model. The Range Rover has a new version of Terrain Response, dubbed Terrain Response 2.
Land Rover also makes the Evoque, Discovery and Freelander.

The uber cool Range Rover competes with the best in the SUV world like the super luxurious Bentley Bentayga, the Porsche Cayenne and even the crazy but equally expensive Mercedes G63 AMG, no to mention the upcoming Rolls Royce SUV, perhaps set to be the most exclusive of them all.

Powertrain

The Range Rover (L405) is powered by two diesel engines and one petrol engine; 3.0 L V6 turbo diesel producing 260 PS (191 kW; 256 hp) of power and 600 N·m (443 lb·ft) of torque, 4.4 L V8 turbo diesel produces 344 PS (253 kW; 339 hp) of power and 700 N·m (516 lb·ft) of torque, a single 5.0 L V8 petrol engine unit has two versions, naturally aspirated engine produces 380 PS (279 kW; 375 hp) of power and 510 N·m (376 lb·ft) of torque while supercharged version produces 510 PS (375 kW; 503 hp) of power and 625 N·m (461 lb·ft) of torque.
All engines are mated to eight-speed automatic transmission. Gears can be selected from Drive Select Rotary Shifter from the centre console or driver can also manually select gears via the paddle shift controls on the steering wheel.
The car has permanent intelligent four wheel drive with 50/50 torque split and a two-speed transfer box for high and low range options, helping to maintain traction and stability in challenging conditions on-road, off-road, or when towing.

Suspension

The Range Rover (L405) has electronic cross-linked air suspension (with variable ride height), with multiple suspension adjustment modes are provided as standard, including access, normal on-road, off-road and extended height. A new extra intermediate setting adds greater convenience and improves handling across the vehicle’s breadth of capabilities. The car has automated Load leveling mechanism.
Advanced, intelligent suspension technologies assist the Range Rover’s performance and achieve consistent driving refinement, on and off-road. Adaptive dynamics continuously analyse vehicle movements over 500 times per second, reacting instantaneously to road conditions and driver actions. Infinitely variable dampers adjust to maintain a composed and balanced ride.
Dynamic response system transforms handling and the comfort for all occupants. It independently adjusts and monitors front and rear suspension units, reducing the amount of body roll during cornering, as well as enhancing control and stability at higher speeds.

Terrain Response

The Range Rover’s all-terrain capability features a new second generation Terrain Response system. The system monitors ground conditions to determine the most appropriate response to the terrain and automatically optimises vehicle settings for an enhanced and assured experience for almost all driving conditions. The system provides settings for grass, gravel, snow, mud, sand, and rock crawl, Terrain Response technology instantly reconfigures transmission, suspension, and traction settings for maximum drivability in almost all conditions. Controlled Acceleration Control prevents excessive speeds downhill, and Hill Start Assist prevents the vehicle from inadvertently rolling backwards.

Safety

The Range Rover (L405) has driver and passenger airbags (side, seat-front, thorax and pelvis), plus airbags to protect rear-seat passengers. Other safety aids include cornering brake control, which helps to maintain stability when cornering by adjusting the driver’s generated brake pressure, along with dynamic stability control to maintain control by reducing engine torque and applying braking to the appropriate wheel and correcting under-steer or over-steer.

It competes with the likes of BMW X5/X6, Audi Q7, Porsche Cayenne and other established offroaders like the Jeep Grand Cherokee, Mercedes Benz G63 AMG, etc.

Straight up, this car is politically incorrect. Its too huge; too massive. But, you still want one. Perfect for scaring the daylights out of other cars on the roads, this brute is being to put into production by Merc, after the positive feedback that it received from critics and enthusiasts alike.
But, as Merc wants this to be very exclusive a car, it will limit sales to just about 30 a year, at around545000 piece.  


Powered by the same twin turbo charged 5.5 litre V8 536bhp from the G63 AMG 4x4, the beast rushes to 62 mph in less than 6 seconds, which is even more impressive when you realise that it weighs a massive 3.85 tons and is driven by all the 6 wheels.

Talking about dimensions, the juggernaut is 19 ft in length, rides on 37 inch tires and the cabin is so high, you'd probably need a ladder. Mercedes claims that its got "all the ability of a mountain goat" and also that fording a river is almost "a child's play". 'nuff said.

Merc intends to sell a chunk of the production of the 6x6 in the middle east, which is the perfect playground for the 6x6. It offers comfort levels comparable to the Range Rover too.

While the G63 AMG 4x4 already gave other established offroaders a run for their money, this one cleanly dismantles their challenges. The good old defender can do nothing about it. The Hummer you say? Very little.... Hell, it looks set to even beat a military grade tank, this 19 ft of awesomeness. So, is this the beg-borrow-or-steal  toy you so badly desire?













Alfa Romeo 4C


The Alfa Romeo 4C is a small, lightweight rear wheel drive two seater CoupĂ© sports car, similar in size to the Alfa Romeo MiTo. It uses a carbon fiber tub, front and rear crash box, and hybrid rear frame mainly out of aluminium to keep its weight at 895 kilograms (1,973 lb).




After debuting at the 81st Geneva Motor Show in March 2011, it will be the first mass-produced Alfa Romeo car for re-entry into the US market by 2014.
Body and Design
Designed by Alfa Romeo Centro Stile (Style Centre), the car was developed independently by Alfa Romeo with construction methods that were used for the KTM X-Bow and Lotus Elise before.
The carbon fiber tub is produced by TTA (Tecno Tessile Adler) in Airola, a joint venture between Adler and Lavorazione Materiali Compositi (Lmc). The body will not be made entirely of carbon fiber, with the front and rear frames being aluminium. This increases the weight to around 900 kilograms (2,000 lb).
The chassis of the car weighs only 65 kilograms (140 lb) and is a single carbon fibre body, just like that in supercars. Outer body is made of composite material which is 20 % lighter than steel body, stability is comparable to steel and better than aluminium.

Powertrain and performance

The 4C uses a new all-aluminium 1.75 L (1,742 cc) 240 horsepower (180 kW) at 6000 rpm inline 4 cylinder turbocharged engine. The engine has been designed for minimum weight, and will probably also appear in the 159 replacement, the Giulia. The engine CO2 emissions are 157 g/km and combined fuel consumption 6.8 L/100 km (42 mpg-imp; 35 mpg-US). 0-62 miles per hour (100 km/h) acceleration is achieved in 4.5 seconds and the top speed is 258 km/h (160 mph), the power-to-weight-ratio being just 0.33 hp/kg. Alfa Romeo has also confirmed a new 1.8 litre, 300 PS (221 kW) engine, which may appear in the 4C.
The 4C is equipped with six speed Alfa TCT Dual Dry Clutch Transmission, and can be operated via gearshift paddles on the steering wheel. It also has an Alfa 'DNA' dynamic control selector which controls the behaviour of engine, brakes, steering, throttle response, suspension and gearbox. In addition to the modes already seen in Giulietta, the 4C has a new "Race" mode.

Suspension, brakes, wheels and steering

The 4C has a high quadrilateral suspension at the front and MacPherson struts in the rear. Resultant weight distribution is 40% on the front and 60% on the rear axle. To ensure best possible grip to the road a Pirelli P Zero tyres with a different diameter and width is fitted to the rear and front, either 205/45-17 in front and in the back 235/40-18 (205/40-18 and 235/35-19 is available as optional). The 4C has ventilated disc brakes in all corners, in front Brembo 305 millimetres and in the rear 292 millimetres. The car can stop from 100 km/h to 0 in only 36 metres. To save in weight and to guarantee best feel the car has no power steering.

Production

The 4C is going to production in May 2013 at Maserati's plant in Modena, with an expected production of up to 2,500 units per year. and will be the first mass-produced Alfa Romeo car for re-entry into the US market. The car will be sold at first as Launch Edition , produced as a numbered edition: 400 in Europe, Africa and the Middle East, 500 in North America and 100 in the rest of the world. The Launch Edition is available in 'Carrara White' or 'Rosso Alfa' (red) fitted with carbon fibre trim and other extra accessories. Price tag for Launch Edition is 60,000 euros including VAT.

Porsche 911 Turbo/ Turbo S

Say hello to the fastest and most powerful 4-wheel drive Porsche 911. Porsche has just unveiled its latest offering in the 911 range- the Turbo and the Turbo S. Essentially, twin turbocharged versions of the 3.8 litre boxer engine of the Carrera. The engine produces 513 bhp in the Turbo and 552 bhp in Turbo S, courtesy a higher boost setting of the two turbos. There is no manual option, just like the GT3, and all the turbo models will come standard with the 7- speed PDK.

Talking about the performance, the Turbo S will get to 62 mph in a scant 3.1 seconds, while the Turbo, equipped with the 'sport chrono' package will get to 62 mph in 3.2 seconds flat, almost as fast as its bigger brother. The Turbo S goes on to a top speed of 197 mph while the Turbo won't be too far back. But hey, as  is characteristic of Porsche, the cars may perform even faster in the realy world, as Porsche almost always releases lower performance specs then what they're cars can really achieve.

As long as the looks are concerned, well, it depends all on how you look at it. Those of you who are instantly reminded of the Beetle, well, might not find it as beautiful and striking as those who aren't.

Mercedes Benz A45 AMG



In a nutshell, this is the smallest Mercedes Benz that AMG has tuned. But AMG assures us that the A45 AMG will be an awesome car. And going by the engine which sits under its hood, that Merc claims is the most powerful production 4-cylinder 2 litre engine, it seems legit. Also, it sports four-wheel drive and a rather aggressive bodywork, enough to make the other hot hatchesit competes with- the Golf R, Audi RS3 and the BMW 1 M run for cover. 

AMG needs no introduction to the absolutely bonkers cars that it produces, like the SLS AMG supercar.  


The 2 litre engine poduces a massive-for-a-2-litre 360 bhp and 332 pund feet of torque. It weighs under 1500 kg and uses a seven-speed dual clutch transmission.  The brakes are Brembos, with 350mm discs upfront, and four caliper pistons.



Rolls-Royce Wraith


 Purists will condemn Rolls' decision to break a few of its few trademarks and create their latest offering, the Wraith, but this is only the product of its initiative to be more desirable to the young lot of rich customers. Until now, no Rolls was keenly associated with the words 'adventure' and 'sporty'. But the Wraith strives to be just that, what with its coupe-ish profile and an engine that Rolls-Royce states is the most powerful they have ever put in a production car. 


For $3,25,000, you get a car with a slightly sporty character from the manufacturers of some of the most luxurious cars out there. Under the hood, there's a 6.6 litre V12 petrol engine producing 624 bhp, more than enough to push around the over two tonne luxury barge with gusto.


On 18 January 2013, calling it the "car Charles Rolls would choose to drive", Rolls-Royce announced the Wraith as a model that would "indulge a passion for innovation, engineering and adventure". Its chassis design was created by a serbian designer, Pavle Trpinac It has been reported that this will be the fastest and most luxurious British car to be built by Rolls-Royce.
A four-seat coupĂ© based on the chassis of the Rolls-Royce Ghost, the vehicle was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show on 5 March 2013. Deliveries are expected from September 2013.
In anticipation of the unveiling, Rolls-Royce had created a series of pre-promotional animated media for the Wraith.
The new Wraith is defined by "bold lines, tension in the panels and a raked rear screen" — features that offer it a unique character. The model will be immediately recognized as a Rolls Royce, thanks to its deeply recessed grille, wide rear track and, of course, the dramatic two-tone colorization offered for the exterior.
